An exciting new piece of history is reopening at Meyer Ranch. Introducing The Heimer House Park, offering a glimpse of history as the home of Meyer Ranch’s original owners. After construction started in early 2025, we are excited to announce The Heimer House Park will be opening later this year, restored to showcase the history of Meyer Ranch while being a place for residents to gather.
The Heimer House Legacy
The Heimer House, now recognized as a Texas Historical Landmark, was built in the late 1800s by German immigrant Franz Heimer for his family and showcases the craftsmanship and aesthetics of the time. Heimer was a part of a wave of German settlers who arrived in Central Texas during the mid-19th century, contributing to the cultural and population growth of New Braunfels. By 1850, New Braunfels was the fourth largest city in Texas with a population of 1,723 people. Now, the Heimer House stands as a testament to the town’s early history and the lasting legacy of German-American heritage in the region. Over the years, the house has witnessed the transformation of New Braunfels from a small town into a thriving modern community, making it not just a home, but a living piece of Texas history.
The Heimer House Park features the original homestead preserved as well as information areas which showcase the story of Franz Heimer and his family, who called the house their home. In addition to showcasing the history of the home, the park will also offer plenty of hill country landscaping, seating and gathering spaces, and walking path connections. The walking paths will also connect to the already existing 3.5 miles of trail system Meyer Ranch has. These paths provide convenient access to all of the different amenities Meyer Ranch has to offer, enhancing both convenience and lifestyle. A walk from the Heimer House to The Haus will be a little over a mile while a walk from The Heimer House to The Community Green will be 2.94 miles. Whether you’re heading to a community event or simply enjoying a scenic route, these trails make every walk relaxing and enjoyable– bringing neighbors, nature, and historic charm together.
The Meyer Ranch Lifestyle
In addition to the historic Heimer House, Meyer Ranch is packed with amenities designed to elevate everyday living.
