The Smithson Valley Rangers captured their first UIL Class 5A Division I state football championship in 2024, followed by a second consecutive state title in 2025. Much of that success has come under longtime head coach Larry Hill, who has guided the program since 1993. A member of the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor, Coach Hill has recently added another award to his accomplished career by being named the 2026 UIL Coach of the Year, recognizing his leadership and the program’s continued success. Together, these accomplishments reflect the tradition of excellence at Smithson Valley and the opportunities for students to learn, compete, and grow as part of a school community with a proud history and bright future.

Smithson Valley’s accomplishments also extend beyond the football field. During the 2025-26 school year, the girls soccer team captured the program’s first state championship, completing a historic, undefeated 29-0 season. That success contributed to a memorable year for the Rangers, who were also honored with the 2025-26 Dan Cook Cup, recognizing Smithson Valley as the highest-performing school across all sports in the Express-News area.

Students have more than one way to find what they love at Smithson Valley. Alongside athletics, students can explore academics, fine arts, career programs, and extracurricular activities that encourage students to try something new, build their talents, and prepare them for what comes next.
